The Supreme Court will hear on Wednesday a petition filed by former Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. The petition challenges a Madras high court order restraining the AIADMK General Council from amending the party's by-laws during its meeting. The suit is scheduled to come up before Justice Krishnan Ramaswamy on Wednesday.

A judge of the Madras High Court agreed to hear on July 6, a plea to restrain the Edappadi K Palanisawmi faction of the AIADMK from conducting a general council meet of the party on July 11. A mention to this effect was made today before Justice Krishnan Ramaswamy.

The dominant Edappady K Palaniswami camp is pushing for him to take up the single leadership of the party. The court adjourned further hearing on the plea for contempt to July 7.
AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam last month thwarted an attempt to have a unitary leadership in the party. His rival and deputy coordinator, E Palaniswami or EPS, has the backing of the majority of party leaders, to be elected the party chief on July 11.

Droupadi Murmu is the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance's candidate for the July 18 presidential election. She was in Tamil Nadu on Saturday to meet AIADMK leaders and former chief ministers E Palaniswamy and O Panneerselvam. Murmu will succeed president Ram Nath Kovind and become the country's first tribal woman to hold the post.

O Panneerselvam and Edappadi K Palaniswami to file counters in response to a petition seeking to restrain the persons concerned from holding the general council of the party on July 11. The petition was filed by S Suriyamoorthy of Avilipatti village in Dindigul district. Suriyamurthy had originally filed a petition before the City Civil Court to stall the meeting scheduled for June 23.
Edappadi K Palaniswami bluntly told his rival O Panneerselvam that he is not the party's Coordinator anymore. He slammed him for trying to scuttle the June 23 General Council meet convened by both of them. This is the first time he has openly said that his rival does not hold the top party post.
Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) chief TTV Dhinakaran said that the tussle in AIADMK was favouring the DMK. He claimed that the AMMK will retrieve Jayalalitha’s party from the “wrong hands” in the future and fight DMK. The general council meeting held on June 23 has become a blot in the history of the party, he said. The AMMK leader also took on Chief Minister MK Stalin over his comments.
AIADMK worker, P Shanmugam of Tiruppur district in Tamil Nadu, has moved the Madras High Court, seeking action against party’s then Joint Co-ordinator K Palaniswami and senior leaders and general council (GC) members. The interim prayers include staying the appointment of Hussain as the permanent Presidium Chairman at the general council meeting.
